Having a background in biology, I had the opportunity to directly support and work at one of the amazing rehabilitation centers for marine animals in Brazil. Sea lion pups were way too common there, and seeing them all so frightened and vulnerable, what’s worse, having one of them die in my arms, broke my heart more times than I can count.
Years later I decided to finally see these amusing animals in their natural habitat. I traveled to Peninsula Valdéz and Puerto Deseado, the best places to spot wild animals in Argentina, where I managed to learn more about their behavior than I could ever see in captivity. Seeing huge Alpha males showing their dominance to everyone around or heartwarming moments between moms and cubs can put your own life in perspective.
